Bulgaria develops and participates in the high-tech policy of the European Union for the exploration and exploitation of space for peaceful purposes. Areas of active Space Policy cooperation and development cover astronomy and astrophysics, Earth observation research and applications, telecommunications, micro-navigation research, space biology and medicine, education and awareness, etc.
On February 15, 2022, the Ministry of Innovation and Growth signed an European Cooperating State (ECS) Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the European Space Agency (ESA), which was ratified by the National Assembly on June 8, 2022. The agreement continues the partnership from the previous five-year period for the active participation of Bulgarian companies and research organisations in the space industry of Europe. The country's micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, universities and academic institutions will participate in the creation of new space technologies, applications, data usage and space engineering curricula.
