Tomislav Donchev - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth

He has Master’s Degree in Philosophy from St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. He also has a second major – Journalism. In 2006 he received a second master's degree in Business administration from the same university.

In 1998 Tomislav Donchev specializes in political science at the International Summer School of Political Science and International Relations in Poland.

In 2001 he specializes in “Supporting high-tech SMEs and R&D start-ups” at the Negev Institute, Israel. In 2005 he completed a business mentoring course at the Academy of Business Mentoring in Oxford, England.

In the period 1995-2000 he works as a volunteer, a member of the management and an employee in various non-governmental organizations in the field of education and science; he was also an associate of an agency for sociological research.

In 1997-1999 he works as a teacher in the Humanitarian High School “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in Veliko Tarnovo, where he teaches psychology, logic, ethics, philosophy.

In 1999-2000 he is an editor at Radio Gabrovo.

In 2000-2004 he is the executive director of the Gabrovo High-Tech Business Incubator organization

In 2004-2007 he works as a program director at the Open Society Institute.

In 2007 he was elected for Mayor of Gabrovo. The main priority in his work is the attraction of external funding and the development of quality project proposals, with which the Municipality of Gabrovo establishes itself as one of the most successful beneficiaries in Bulgaria in terms of project management with European funding in all spheres of socio-economic life. In just two years, 21 project proposals were prepared, of which 19 received funding.

In March 2010 he became Minister for Management of European Union Funds in the government of Boyko Borissov.

In the period May - November 2014 he is a member of the European Parliament from the EPP/GERB group.

He was elected Deputy Prime Minister for European Funds and Economic Policy on November 7, 2014 from the 43rd National Assembly.

He was elected as Deputy Prime Minister on May 4, 2017 from the 44th National Assembly.

He was elected as a People's Representative by PP GERB in the 42nd, 44th, 45th, 46th, 47th, 48th, 49th, 50th and 51st National Assembly.

He was elected Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth on 16 January 2025 from the 51st National Assembly.
