The Ministry of Innovation and Growth focuses on attracting investments for the development of industry, regions and human resources. We believe that this will also encourage the development of more innovations and the creation of innovative enterprises.  This was stated by the Minister of Innovation and Growth Assoc. Rosen Karadimov at a meeting with the European Commissioner for Innovation, Scientific Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova.

The two discussed the development and financing of innovation and scientific research for the growth of the economy and for increasing the competitiveness of business in the country. Commissioner Ivanova said that scientific research and innovation have been identified as a priority in the new political guidelines of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The meeting at the Ministry of Innovation and Growth was attended by the head of the political cabinet, Maria Petrova, acting chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the Bulgarian Development Bank Delyana Ivanova and the head of the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria Yordanka Chobanova.

“The Ministry of Innovation and Grouth works purposefully for Bulgaria to establish itself as a good destination for investors with the provided conditions. The focus of the work is not only about the interaction between science and business for the development of products and services with high added value,” Minister Karadimov also stated.

Commissioner Ivanova said that for the achievement of these goals for the country, the recently adopted Law on Promotion of Scientific Research and Innovation is of key importance. The purpose of the law is to create a better regulatory framework for the use of innovation. In this regard, Minister Karadimov stated that the constitution of a National Innovation Fund at the Ministry of Innovation and Growth is also planned. The idea is for the fund to become a key unit for the implementation of innovation policies in Bulgaria.

During the meeting, Minister Karadimov and Commissioner Ivanova also discussed the need to prioritize the development of innovations in sectors such as space, defense, microelectronics, biomedicine, which would bring the country to the forefront. The European Commissioner for Innovation emphasized that the talents and highly qualified workforce in Bulgaria give a serious advantage and the state must create conditions to keep them here. As a good example in this direction, she pointed out the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT).
